The Company
Modbar started with two bandmates in a basement. In the early 2000s, Corey Waldron — guitarist by night, barista and roaster by day — kept thinking about the disconnect between the craft going into a drink and what the customer actually saw: a big countertop machine blocking the view. Combined with bassist Aric Forbing's experience as a machine pattern engineer, that frustration became a genuinely new way to build an espresso machine, with the inner workings moved entirely under the counter. La Marzocco was an early investor from Modbar's first showing in 2007, and has taken an increasingly active role since 2016 — today Modbar and La Marzocco work closely together across sales, service, marketing, and manufacturing, and Modbar's espresso systems are built on R&D shared directly with the Linea PB and Linea Mini.
The Product
Steam solves the bottleneck that shows up the moment your milk drinks start queuing behind your espresso shots. Add a second steam station next to your Modbar Espresso, or set up a distinct milk-texturing area entirely separate from your espresso workflow — some cafés even add Steam purely to boost throughput, rather than buying an entire second espresso machine just to get a second wand.
A double-wall pro touch stainless steel wand prevents burns during fast-paced service, with an ergonomic handle designed to match the Espresso AV so your whole bar has a consistent feel across stations. Two steam tips are included, a simple on/off switch controlled by a solenoid in the module means minimal purge and no steam valve rebuilds over the machine's life, and an omnidirectional ball fitting supports ambidextrous use — genuinely useful when your barista roster includes both left- and right-handed staff. Right-hand side connections keep service access easy without disrupting the rest of your under-counter layout.
A second steam station for the cost of a wand, not a whole machine — Steam removes your milk bottleneck without doubling your equipment.
Who It's Built For
For the café where milk drinks are creating a genuine queue behind espresso orders — where adding wand capacity would solve the actual bottleneck, but buying an entirely second espresso machine just for that purpose doesn't make financial sense.
It's built for a Modbar Espresso AV installation specifically, extending the same under-counter design philosophy and matching ergonomic handle across your whole bar.
