The Company

ECM was founded in 1996 by Wolfgang Hauck, who spent years as the exclusive importer of Italian brands like Gaggia, Cimbali, Pavoni, and Vibiemme before deciding to build his own machines. That import experience shaped ECM's whole approach: use tried-and-tested components from professional-grade equipment, and build machines that outlast their warranty by a decade or more. The first model, the ECM Technika, remains one of the brand's most popular machines today.

The Product

The Classika PID is a single-boiler heat exchanger machine built to make genuinely good espresso in a kitchen too small for anything bigger. The PID display gives you direct control over boiler temperature and shows brewing time as it happens, so you're adjusting based on what's actually extracting rather than guessing. A short heat-up phase means it's ready fast, and an accessible expansion valve lets you fine-tune brew pressure yourself rather than sending the machine out for a service call.

What separates it from other single-boiler machines at this size is the brew group — ECM's high-end unit with an innovative stainless steel bell, the same build quality you'd expect on their larger dual-boiler machines, just fitted to a compact stainless steel body that doesn't demand much counter real estate.

Compact enough for a small kitchen, precise enough that you'll never notice the compromise.

Who It's Built For

For the home espresso enthusiast who's outgrown a basic pump machine but doesn't have — or want — a full-size dual-boiler setup taking over the kitchen counter. It's built for someone who wants PID-level temperature precision and a commercial-grade brew group, without the footprint or price of ECM's bigger machines.

It's also a smart entry point into the ECM ecosystem for someone planning to upgrade later — you learn the brand's brew group and PID logic on a smaller investment first.
