About the Brand
Bentwood is a Swiss grinder maker based in Cham, built around one idea: burr geometry that genuinely changes what's in the cup. Designed in Germany and produced in Switzerland and Italy, Bentwood grinders have been developed and tested with Q-Graders and competition baristas from around the world, and the brand has served as the official grinder for major barista and brewers cup events.
The Product
The Bentwood Vertical 63 Commercial Espresso Grinder is the grinder Bentwood built its name on — 63mm special steel flat burrs mounted vertically rather than horizontally, a geometry independent testing has shown extracts noticeably greater body and complexity across both espresso and filter brewing. Stepless grind adjustment shows particle size directly on the dial as you turn it, and a double ventilation system keeps grinding temperature — and therefore flavour — under control. It was used in the 2023 US Coffee Championships, and this is Bentwood's proof that burr geometry alone can change what's in the cup.
Vertical 63mm Flat Burrs (Body & Complexity)
Special steel burrs mounted vertically instead of horizontally, a geometry shown in independent testing to extract greater body and complexity across brew methods.
Stepless Adjustment with Direct Readout (See Your Setting)
Particle size is shown directly on the dial as you turn it, so you can see exactly where you're landing rather than counting clicks.
Double Ventilation System (Temperature Control)
Keeps grinding temperature down during long sessions, protecting the flavour compounds that heat strips out of coffee.
Independently Tested Low Retention (0.1–0.4g)
Retention varies with coffee and roast level, aided by the vertical burr orientation and a removable spout that clears grounds between doses.
Multi-Method Versatility (One Grinder, Every Brew)
The same burr set handles espresso, pour-over, French press, cold brew and Turkish grinds, so you're not swapping hardware between brew methods.
Competition-Proven Design (2023 US Coffee Championships)
Developed and refined with input from Q-Graders and competition baristas before reaching the bar you're working on.
Who It's Built For
You brew both espresso and filter on the same bar, and you want one burr set that handles both well rather than swapping grinders between methods. Whether you're running a multi-method café or you're a serious home brewer who won't compromise on either format, the Vertical 63 gives you one machine built to do it all — no hardware swaps, no compromises.
